Post Traumatic Stress and Children

by Kim

How does Post-Traumatic stress disorder effect children, and at what age are they most vulnerable? I would like to know how it effects them mentally and physically.

Answer by Tracy
Stress can have many effects on children just like it does in adults. Plus every child will react differently and so there are no definitive list of symptoms etc.

Some of the symptoms could include

Withdrawal and a sudden desire to join in with things as before

Changes in eating habits or the development of an eating disorder such as anorexia.

Reduction in communication, becoming quieter.

Change in appetite, not feeling hungry or overeating

I have some pages here on the site which is dedicated to how stress affects children which you may find of further help.

best wishes Tracy
