Learn How To Relax The Mind 

How to relax the mind as well as the body. The relaxation exercises will go some way to relaxing the mind but they are mainly focused on total relaxation for body. Relaxing the mind needs to be focused on separately.

It is often the case that the stress we feel is mainly caused by our busy bussing mind and so learning to calm our thinking will in turn help to reduce the effects of stress felt physically too.

Sadly it is the case that it is not possible to simply tell ourselves to stop worrying or to stop thinking about things which are causing us stress and anxiety. In fact trying to do this often makes it worse as we then tend to focus on these very things rather than to let them go.

So how do we learn how to relax the mind? By focusing it on something relaxing instead and distracting it away from our worries.

There are several mind relaxing techniques described here. Not all will suit everyone, so try them all and then choose the one which you feel most comfortable with and which provides the best relaxation for you.

Before any of the following methods, spend a little time practicing one of the relaxation exercises, so that you are physically relaxed.

Method One

  • Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes.
  • Now try to picture in your mind a calming scene, make it as clear as you can, notice the sights and sounds of your calming place.

It could be:

  • By the beach with waves lapping at your feet
  • Sunlight steaming through the trees in a wooded area
  • A warm day amongst the swaying fields of corn
  • A kitten sleeping
  • A warm bed with cosy blankets
  • Whatever you find calming. Breathe slowly and regularly as you focus on your scene.

Method Two

  • Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes.
  • Now focus your mind on a favourite relaxing piece of music or a poem or the face of a loved one. Focus completely and allow the image and the feelings they produce to envelop you.

Method Three

  • Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes.
  • Slowly and silently say to yourself
