Aromatherapy stress relief oils. The oils mentioned on this page are specifically chosen for their relaxing affect on the mood.
Many will ask how a scent can affect how we feel; well the answer is a simple one really. The Olfactory system i.e. our nose is connects directly with the part of our brain which controls the fight of flight response. This means that when we are feeling stressed or anxious our brain triggers a series of chemical reactions which prepare our body to fight or flee.
certain scents have proven over the years to have a relaxing affect on this area of the brain and so in turn we are not put on high alert by our bodies and are instead calmer and able to cope with the stress at hand (it is rare that we need to fight or flee most stress in our modern world)
I have used aromatherapy fro many years and find it so soothing. In fact as I write this I am at my desk with a Patchouli incense stick burning (my favourite scent). I feel warm and comfortable and relaxed, which I did not when I used to work in a busy office where I was not able to burn incense. (I often feel managers could take note of this and try it out in their own offices at work; they may find that their staff become better workers who are more focused.
These oils are can be used in a variety of ways as suggested on the previous aromatherapy page. I.e.:
in baths,
These oils can also be combined to affect several moods at once. Experiment for yourself to find the ones that affect your mood the most. i enjoy trying different ones together to produce my own unique aromas for my home.
